KEN HASTIE

COACH KEN

HEAD COACH – BOX LACROSSE

Meet Ken Hastie In 1972, Ken Hastie picked up a lacrosse stick at age 3 and has never put it down. He played Ontario minor league box lacrosse until he was twenty when he began coaching it. Hastie has played with 2 Provincial Championship teams and was a member of the coaching staff of 3 Provincial Championship teams. In his 25 years of coaching he has coached athletes who have never picked up a stick, to athletes who are now playing College and or Professional lacrosse.

Hastie has been interested in having FCA come to Canada for many years after reading their online coaching materials and his son’s experience playing with FCA in a Lake Placid tournament. During a dinner conversation with Dan Britton, FCA’s Executive VP of International Ministries, at a 2011 Under Armour All-American tournament in Baltimore Hastie recalls saying: “We really should look at getting FCA into Canada for lacrosse.” Now, five years later, it has become a reality as plans are being made to begin a lacrosse club in Ontario.

“I am excited about how FCA’s ministry can impact coaches and fill them with a desire to coach differently as it did for me. And, how it helps kids find Christ and let them know that they can play sport, and have real purpose in doing it — besides just winning.”

“When I came to Christ in 2007 I had been coaching a long time and my focus was on winning and striving for excellence. While those elements are great, I know now that they aren’t the end all. My focus has shifted to being centered more on the kids than the actual sport itself. I realized I should have been doing things a lot differently, and FCA had the groundwork for how to do that,” Hastie said.

A 1987 graduate of Centre Wellington High School, Hastie attended Heritage College and Seminary where he studied music education. He is a Home Comfort Advisor with Reliance Home Comfort Solutions and Network Marketing.

Hastie and his wife Sandy reside in the village of Innerkip an hour west of Toronto. They attend River City Church, Cambridge, where Hastie has been an active part of their worship ministry for years. The couple has four children — Brianna, MacKenzie, Joel and Logan.

Ken is currently the head coach of the Guelph Regals in the Ontario Junior B Lacrosse League.
