Mercyhurst University recruits FCA’s Shawn Doran

A few weeks ago, midfielder Shawn Doran (Hilton HS) announced his commitment to play at Mercyhurst University next year. We caught up with Shawn and asked him a few questions regarding the FCA and him choosing Mercyhurst University. We also asked Shawn if he had any advice for juniors and seniors during the recruiting process.

Here are Shawn’s answers below:

Q. Why did you and your family choose to play for FCA?

A. The reason I chose FCA was because one of my best friends, Mitchell Buckert, had started playing FCA. He and his family shared how much they loved the program and recommended we give it a try. After 7 years with the program – it was very obvious how much I liked FCA.

Q. What has the FCA meant to you?

A. FCA has meant a lot to me but building life-long relationships with coaches and players alike has been the most impactful not only for me, but for my parents as well. We all have met some great families throughout the years and we look forward to keeping in touch with them in the future. Also, all of the Coaches throughout the years have shown a lot of confidence in me.

Q. Who are your role models?

A. My role models are my parents – Kathy and Patrick. They have always supported me with all of my activities from academics to athletics to relationships. They have helped me attain my goals by holding me accountable and having achievable expectations.

Q. What do you enjoy most about playing for the FCA?

A. The most enjoyable part about FCA has been strengthening my Faith through the Huddle discussions, friendships and playing with and against some of the best lacrosse players throughout the Country.

Q. Why did you choose Mercyhurst University?

A. I chose Mercyhurst University because of the strong Sports Medicine/PT program; they have a successful lacrosse team; I have already started building a solid relationship with the coaches and players; and I feel I can be an impactful player immediately.

Bonus: Any words of advice for high school juniors / seniors going through the college process?

Words of advice to Juniors/Seniors would be to put in the hard work and stay positive because good things will happen for them. I would also suggest each player find the best fit academically – don’t get caught up with D1, D2 or D3 labels.
